Within 50 miles of Grand Junction, Colorado, there is nearly unlimited camping. Most camp sites are free, or nearly so, in the National Forests. BLM and State Parks.
Tent and RV camping abound near Grand Junction. Up on the Grand Mesa there are RV campgrounds, as well as plenty of wilderness camping. The roads up the Mesa are paved, an easy drive for the average motor home or trailer. On top of the Mesa, roads are well maintained gravel, still suitable for RVs. Be sure to bring your hiking boots and fishing gear, to take advantage of 300 lakes and over many hiking trails. If you are an off-roader, there are single track trails for bikes, 50" trails for quads and many open trails for UTVs and jeeps, a veritable outdoor playground.
